AUBURN - Auburn swimming and diving coach Richard Quick did not stay for the end of the SEC Championships' final night of competition Saturday, but his presence meant as much to his athletes as another successful year in the pool.
The 65-year-old Quick was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in late December. He departed James E. Martin Aquatic Center after the men secured their record-tying 13th straight conference title and the Auburn women wrapped up second place in one of the closest finishes in SEC history.
"He wishes us every success, and in the midst of what's to be a selfish time in his life he's giving it up for us as much as he can," said senior Matt Targett, a Beijing silver and bronze medalist for Australia who won seven SEC titles this week (three individual, four relay). "The fact that he even came tonight means a lot to us."

The No. 5 Florida women finished with 744 points to No. 6 Auburn's 730.5 and No. 1 Georgia's 725.
The Auburn men, ranked No. 5, had all but clinched their 15th title in 16 years entering the final day of the four-day event.
The Tigers entered Saturday 183.5 points ahead of Florida and won with 880.5 points. The No. 8 Gators finished with 626.
