Wednesday, in response to a series of questions about Alabama's special teams concerns, Saban tied one of the game's all-time great figures into his answer about the tackling skills of UA kicker Leigh Tiffin.
UA kicker Leigh Tiffin is 8 of 10 on field goals this season, but hasn't mastered the tackle yet. "Paul Brown, everybody used to say that he was crazy. The first day of practice he made everybody on the team tackle. Quarterbacks, everybody. I don't do that, but we should," Saban said. "The punter needs to know how to tackle, the kicker needs to know how to tackle. It's a tough game for tough people and I can't make them be like everybody else. The quarterback needs to know how to tackle... at some point in time, you'll see it hurts them. Just like Arkansas' guy [Casey Dick] didn't know how to tackle, and we scored two touchdowns."
Alabama Coach Nick Saban
Its about time !!!

The little guy is going to killed if he don't do something
LOL he's a tough kid, but his idea of tackling is lowering his head and letting the runner run over him and by some chance taking himself down.

I was just thinking.......
How well can that freshman kicker we got, kick off ?? I know he can't hit FG's cause I went to the Tulane game and he choked bad. But can he kick any further than Tiffin. Up until the UGA game I can't remember Tiffin ever kicking past the 10 yard line. He's killing us .

ummm...on the contrary. watch the film. Everytime Tiffin kicks it between the goal line and the 5 is when our coverage team gets burned. We overpursue the coverage. It seems like when he kicks it between the 5 and the 10 is when our coverage seem best.

The second string kicker kicked the ball out of bounds on a kick off in the Tulane game. This guy is supposed to be good. Saban gave him a scholarship out of high school, which is unheard of for a kicker.

I thought Tiffin put his foot on steroids against UGA. The kicks were booming. The only problem is that the coverage was bad. A lot of freshmen on special teams. I hope we get it worked out soon.

Tiffin looks like a 7th grader playing in the NFL when he bounces off kick off returners.
It shoud also be noted that I've witnessed Tiffin get laughed out of the dance room at Sigma Nu.

not trying to defend him, but he's a true freshman and came in cold. he was probably nervous as heck.

I think all the freshman on kick off coverage are so excited to play they over run the ball. Give them time and Saban will have them breaking down on the ball like they should. One thing I have noticed is you don't want to get tackled by Upshaw or Mark Barron. Those guys are head hunters.
