that John Gruden was being led around the athletic department and facilities over the past couple of days, now he did not reveal the name but he said a super bowl winning coach and he could not digress the name or he would lose his job. And John Gruden is usually the only name that comes up in these conversations. What do you think of this? is it for the post Fulmer era?

Though I don't think Fulmer will go for the next couple of years IMO.

I guess it could be one of multiple coaches, Cowher, Gruden, multiple coaches. But Fulmer has a clause in his contract that he can retire whenever he wants, I think within the next 3 years he is gone. Wouldn't it be fun though to see Gruden or Cowher or some other successful NFL coach come to UT and coach. Could be another Pete Carroll and would that not be sweet!

I'm jealous. Gruden was my first choice for Bama before we got Saban.

John Gruden would make an excellent college coach but I don't think that he will be leaving Tampa Bay anytime soon. Remember he shot down Notre Dame when they offered him before they offered Weis.

Gruden doesn't seem like he'd fit in well with the college game. Also, don't be wowed by the Super Bowl ring....Callahan got to a SB, and he's still struggling with Nebraska, four years later.
If I were the AD, I'd see how Gruden does with this latest dry spell in Tampa before offering him the keys to the Vol kingdom, imo.
I think there would be better candidates...

Agreed, Gruden no nonsense, no bullshit attitude is more well suited for the NFL and its thugs.

Max Howell reported that if Fulmer doesn't have a good season, John Gruden will replace him. take that with a grain of salt

BamaPerry: No trophy for Miles. Not this year, not ever.

Gruden did start his coaching career at UT as a graduate assistant. I still think Phil coaches 2-3 more years.

Though you have a good point, I think the Nebraska/Callahan situation is different than if the same were to be applied at Tennessee. With Nebraska they changed the whole style of play from a mainly option based scheme to a west coast scheme. When Fulmer leaves Tennessee I think a coach, should it be a NFL coach, could have a easier time in the transition b/c Tennessee already runs a lot of pro-style formations. imo

Callahan got to a Super Bowl against Gruden, and got brutally raped 48-21.
I think Gruden would make an amazing CFB coach, I have a hard time naming anyone else who is better with QB's than he.

Can you imagine what Gruden's mean look would do to college kids? Saban would have some serious competition...

Very true, but you have to win more than 5 games in your first year, especially in the Big XII North...even with a system change, lol.
