MLB is 3rd in the US behind NBA and the NFL.  There are a number of reasons why and a number of ideas on how to fix it. Here's my list:

- Length of season.  I don't care that baseball is steeped in tradition and October is when the fall classic is played.  No one who's a fan of the two teams playing cares outside of the most diehard fan.  Football is in full swing and basketball is starting.  Interest in the World Series at that point is dead. Playoffs need to begin in August.  People are dying for football to start and playing baseball games that matter then would put a lot more eyeballs on the games...there's no competition.
- DH rule. Either both leagues use it or neither. This half and half Posted Image is just stupid.
- Pace of game. It has improved but whatever else there may be could help. Baseball isn't the most TV friendly sport. So much better in person.
- Salary cap/revenue sharing/whatever the hell it is the NFL has.  Small market teams in the MLB truly matter at best once a decade.  People treat it as a summer tradition and nothing more when they feel like they're never legitimately in it to win it.
- The media. ATTN ESPN. No one else gives a Posted Image about the Yankees, Red Sox, and Dodgers.

- More Summer double headers (FOR THE PRICE OF ONE GAME YOU GREEDY Posted ImageERS). Play a double header every two weeks for 3 months. Speeds up the length of the season and is great exposure for kids.

- No more 4 hour Yankee/Red Sox games. The slowing of the pace of the game has gotten out of control. Everything needs to be sped up. This is one of the reasons soccer has remained the top sport in the world. Games only last 2 hours.

Easy.

1.  Lower mound
2.  Reduce banned substance list to only illegal products.  If you can buy it over the counter it should be legal
3.  Clock between pitches.
4.  DH for both leagues
5.  Shorten season to 144 games

Series need to be 2 outta 3 at most.  I'd be bold enough to suggest cutting season in half.  There's too many games for you to really care until the season's end, and that's if your team has a shot still. Most folks are done in July.

No DH, shorten season, remove the extra wild card that never belonged.

Forgot about that new wild card. Suddenly a one game playoff is OK? Thank God Selig is done.

Disallow batters to call timeouts, enforce a strict time limit between pitches. That alone would take 45 minutes or more off of the average game time, if not more...

NFL is about to lose a lot of popularity with the BS penalties they've been calling in pre-season... MLB has a chance to take advantage of that.
