Was he in the wrong or right? It's an interesting case and I imagine many of you will be divided.

My first instinct is to say he's a coward for shooting someone who's running away from him, especially a pregnant female.  If someone is in my house and I feel unsafe, I won't hesitate to kill.  But if I've already chased them off the premises, I'm not going to hunt them down to make sure they pay for what they've done.

It's definitely a tough call. For all he knows they might come back armed this time to enact revenge themselves if the police don't catch them first. It's a shame she would put her unborn child in such a situation.

This. You have no idea if they'll return nor how afraid this guy was.  Terrible situation but it's hard to say the guy was wrong for utilizing his rights.

It's a shame, but I don't fault him. If he's old and living alone how does he know they won't come back? Plus, if you're pregnant, why are you breaking into someones home? I'm all for understanding, but this woman sounds like someone who makes terrible terrible life choices and she made her last one that night.

And what a piece of Posted Image the dude robber must be. Yeesh.

ok, ya got djcrenshaw, possum and l a hog robbing yo house. it takes all 3 to take you down and bust you up a bit. l a hog runs, possum runs but dj wants one more thing. you managed to get a 22 pistol in that time. dj sees you and runs. he gets out of yo yard but its close. he turns and tells you he is pregnant. How do you know its true? Do you shoot to kill anyway? A person fleeing and I figure to be unarmed I won't shoot. either of those two things change I will. I wont take a life if I don't have to. AND im not going to believe anything the thieves tell me during the whole altercation. dj saying he was pregnant would go in one ear and out the other. it would be considered a stall tactic.

This. I probably wouldn't have killed her, but I don't know....and I don't know if my response would've been different if I were an elderly person. Either way she was the kind of person who would break into an old mans house and beat him up. He could've easily died from injuries if they are attacking him. And the kind of person she was didn't magically change in the 2 minutes it took him to get his gun out. Only thing that changed was that she was now on the other end. There are risks and rewards to every action. If you break into someone's house you risk getting shot. She knew that.

Like I said, I probably wouldn't have done what he did, but at the same time I've never been in that situation, and I don't fault him for his actions.

Where the Posted Image are we as a society when we start skewing a couple who breaks in, robs, and assaults an old man as victims also?  Seriously America, wtf?  You break in, all bets are off.  Its a bullPosted Image law that says if they are running away you can't shoot. We'll! If you got surprised and didn't have a chance to defend yourself with a firearm you're supposed to just bend over, take it,and let the police try to find them later? Posted Image that.
