Florida Women Win 2013-14 Capital One Cup

Gainesville, Fla.

The Florida women's program won its first Capital One Cup in 2013-14.

Two NCAA titles among a total of eight top-10 finishes in the 2013-14 season gives Florida its first women’s Capital One Cup.

The Gators will be formally honored as the top women’s athletics program of 2013-14 at the ESPY Awards televised by ESPN on July 16, during which the Capital One Cup trophy will be presented.

Florida is the first since the Capital One Cup was introduced for the 2010-11 season to claim the award in men’s and women’s competition. The Gator men’s program won the first two Capital One Cups in 2011 and 2012.

For each win, Capital One contributes $200,000 to UF to support student-athlete scholarships.

How Florida Won
Eight sports contributed to Florida’s winning total of 152 points. Florida won NCAA team titles in gymnastics and softball.

Top four finishes by the Gator indoor (T-3rd) and outdoor (4th) track & field teams and a sixth-place finish for swimming & diving in NCAA Championships competition boosted UF’s total.

The Gators also received points for placing among the top 10 in the final sport polls for lacrosse (4th), tennis (5th) and soccer (10th).

In the final standings, Florida was followed by second-place UCLA (110 points) and 2011 and 2012 Capital One Cup winner Stanford (106 points).
