Washington was the Pacific Coast Conference Champion, which put them in the Rose Bowl, and was highly favored over Bama. They were 10-0-1 on the season with the tie at Nebraska. Half of the 10 wins were over Non-1A teams. Yes, they had beaten 5 Non-1A teams a combined scores of 367-9!

They must have been good because Bama had given up only 7 points the entire season, and Washington jumped on them for 19 unanswered points in the first half. Bama jumped back with 20 unanswered points in the second half, winning 20-19.
