May have been a thread before, but oh well. What is the reason for your favorite team in each sport?

Gamecocks:  Grew up in Columbia as a kid pulling for the Gamecocks, and went to school there (got my mechanical engineering degree there).
Atlanta Braves:  Grew up listening to the Braves as a kid (in the '60s and '70s when they were atrocious) and have been a fan all my life.
Dallas Cowboys:  Grew up a Cowboys fan as a kid, probably because I liked cowboys as a kid.

Mississippi State: Raised in MS. Lots of family history with the school.

Green Bay: I was a kid in the 90's from MS. Brett Farve was my favorite player. I just stuck with the packers after he was gone.

First football game I ever went to was in 2004, in Nashville. Loved the city, and just the whole experience. I also never liked the Vols.

My dealings with Ole Miss football go back to before Archie. Dad would be cooking a steak for him and mom with stuffed burgers for us kids listening to the game. Green Bay and I go back to Bart Starr Elijah Pitts Ray (how ever you spell his name) Nitschiky. Back then I cared about basketball. That was before somebody's salary determined fouls. Earl the pearl, Willis reed, Walt Frazier, Dave debussher, bill Bradley, Henry bibby and Phil action Jackson coming off the bench. Baseball was the Oakland a's. At least until New York bought their team. I didn't know what to do when Steinbrenner did that.

Are you sure that you are not a closet masochist?

Anybody that likes the Braves and Falcons can't be all bad!

Even if they are a bed wetting, socialistic, commie, pinko fag...
They don't think it be like it is, but it do!

grew up in Atlanta before the city became a nerve racking cesspool

Falcons
Braves
UGA
Cheifs for 3 years before soccer left
Hawks - my dad went to school with Tree Rollins in Cordele, GA
Flames until they went to Canada 9the goalie, who was on the gold medal USA team from 1980 - his kid went to grade school with me), then Knights, now Thrashers
Awesome Bill from Dawsonville

Truth - I really and truly don't give a Posted Image about soccer, hockey or especially basketball

I will watch if an Atlanta team or UGA gets deep into the postseason, but that's about it...

Gators - Dads an Alum and raised me proper.
Jags - Hometown team, get into most games free with my hookup.
Magic - Loved me some tracy mcgrady in his prime, became a full time fan
Braves - Went to a lot of games when I was younger. Even though I hate baseball I'll still route for them to do well.

Yes I'm a masochist

I love the Braves more than any other sports team on Earth even though they have caused me more heartache than all the Alabamas and Floridas of the world times 100

PS I hope Kent Hrbek rots in hell
I'd root for Nazi Germany over the New York Yankees

These are the teams my father raised me to like. That's pretty much it.

He grew up in a family where nobody cared about sports at all in the 70s - mid 80's. He was 10 years old when Jawja won the Natty in '80. His last name is Manning and Archie Manning was playing for the Saints at the time he started watching football so you can put two and two together. He played a ton of basketball when he went to a ghetto high school and he was pretty good and they called him Bird Man because he loved the Celtics and Larry Bird. The Yankees? I don't know. Guess that's the baseball team a lot of kids would root for if they had to choose a team.

South Carolina: Born/raised in Columbia.

Virginia Tech: Fraternal grandfather graduated from there with an engineering degree in the early '60s, met my late grandmother there.

Atlanta: Went to a lot of Braves games in the late 1990s

Oakland: Actually found myself at an Oakland game about four years ago when I was out in California for a spell. I had a jolly good time and I've pulled for them (sadly) ever since.

Boston: My dad is a Celtics fan.
