No. 11 South Carolina scored seven runs over the fourth and fifth innings as it dropped Mizzou, 8-1, in the series opener on Friday night (May 9) at Carolina Stadium. The Gamecocks tagged Tiger starter Brett Graves for eight runs (six earned) and 11 hits over 5.2 innings, doing much of that damage in the middle innings. Senior catcher Dylan Kelly (Roswell, Ga.) extended his hitting streak to six games with an RBI single in the fourth, but that was all the offense Mizzou got. The loss drops the Tigers to 20-28 on the year and 6-19 in SEC play. South Carolina junior lefty Jordan Montgomery picked up the win, his seventh of the season after going 8.0 innings, allowing just one run on four Tiger hits. Graves took the loss, his fifth of the season.
