Peter Fairbanks (St. Louis, Mo.) set a career high with six strikeouts, throwing seven innings in relief of John Miles (Columbia, Mo.), but Mizzou (20-26, 6-17) fell to No. 9 Vanderbilt (35-12, 13-10) 5-1 Saturday afternoon (May 3) at Taylor Stadium. Miles started for the Tigers, leaving in the third with an apparent injury. Fairbanks then had a gutsy performance, not allowing a single earned run to the Commodores through the day. All five runs for Vanderbilt came in the third inning.
