no...keep 8 games, rotating 2, keep your 4 noncons and nothing changes...forget the permanent rivalries between Georgia/auburn and Alabama/Tennessee because it isn't fair to hold up 10 teams for the likes of 2 games...if they really want to keep those rivalries then realign the divisions to keep them!

That'd be fine with me; but they ain't getting rid of those 2 rivalries... I bet that wasn't even really up for consideration.

Lsu and au in 2013 was a tough duo from the west, and 10 teams aren't being held up. Likely the opposite as listed above.

I'm not completely up in arms about this, even though it is idiotic.
Florida-Auburn is easily the 2nd or 3rd biggest cross divisional rivalry and it got totally sh*t on.
We are only paired with LSU because it gives the conference another game with ranked opponents every year.

What is really sh*tty is how Georgia is getting an easy pass on every damn temporary schedule they make.

ok..... we played LSU last year......

and I don't know why you only bring up LSU and Bama..... AU whooped ya'll up and down the field twice in one year the last time you played them
were not talking about our schedule which lately has been among the toughest in the nation, were talking about your schedule which has been among the easiest in the conference.  and as far as auburn, yes, they laid the wood to us in the championship, but that was not the case in the regular season.

while I agree it probably wasn't under consideration, that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be because, yes, 10 other teams do have accommodate this!

When is your return game to LSU? Oh wait, they're sending you to Ole Miss instead,
What about our return trip to Arkansas you ask? Oh, they're sending us to Alabama instead.

There must be a mile long line of queers wearing red and black polos and kneepads outside Slive's office.

that's no different than when we got an away game at lsu instead of a home game to Mississippi state while Georgia got ole miss instead of Alabama!

It's like the SEC is trying to manufacture desired results. Traditions only matter when it closely fits with those results.

If you want to know how you ended up with the cross-division opponent you did, simply look at resumes.

Aside from some regional considerations and things like division and conference titles, they put teams together that have similar win/loss resumes.

When the league first expanded in 1991, teams from the 2 divisions were matched with teams with similar records and accomplishments; except for the traditional rivalries (Bama/UT, AU/UGA), and the 2 newest members who automatically got each other, USC/UAr.

So, for this realignment, the SEC looks like this since 1991...

4 Florida 0.75763 223 71 1 295
10 Georgia 0.70312 202 85 1 288
13 Tennessee 0.67832 194 92 0 286
15 Louisiana State 0.67544 192 92 1 285
17 Auburn 0.67138 189 92 2 283
19 Alabama 0.66667 180 90 0 270
22 Texas A&M 0.64737 184 100 1 285
45 Arkansas 0.54480 151 126 2 279
52 South Carolina 0.53636 146 126 3 275
57 Missouri 0.52338 144 131 3 278
58 Mississippi 0.51825 142 132 0 274
72 Mississippi State 0.48175 131 141 2 274
99 Kentucky 0.38745 105 166 0 271
107 Vanderbilt 0.34831 93 174 0 267

Take away Bama, AU, UT, and UGA; and your permanent rival should be very close to your same standing or percentage.

4 Florida 0.75763 223 71 1 295
15 Louisiana State 0.67544 192 92 1 285
22 Texas A&M 0.64737 184 100 1 285
45 Arkansas 0.54480 151 126 2 279
52 South Carolina 0.53636 146 126 3 275
57 Missouri 0.52338 144 131 3 278
58 Mississippi 0.51825 142 132 0 274
72 Mississippi State 0.48175 131 141 2 274
99 Kentucky 0.38745 105 166 0 271
107 Vanderbilt 0.34831 93 174 0 267

UF gets LSU, TAMU gets USC, UAr gets Mizzou, OM gets VU, and MSU gets UK.

1. Uf and LSU were paired up because they are long time rivals, though behind Uga and auburn. As of now, They have played each other 58 times in 61 years.

2. 2010 and 2013 were not easy west draws for Uga. That's 2 out of the past 4.
3. Bama and or lsu are Also benefitting from not playing Uga in 2012 or 2014.

From 1992 through 2001, teams played against 2 permanent rivals from the other division, which allowed UF to maintain its long-standing rivalry with AU. But some athletic directors complained that their schedules were tougher than others because of those rivalry games. Auburn complained that they got stuck with UF and UGA every year.

So then they went to the single permanent opponent in 2002, using a number of criteria, including rivalry history; but because of thecomplaints, they also paired teams by how equal they were; they said as much at the time. They weren't going to pair 2 teams that were vastly different and have games that were one-sided beatings every year.

And you can cherry pick a few years when UGA has had a decent schedule; but I'll show you the SOS rankings for UGA and UF as far back as I can find, and you can judge for yourself how equal or fair they appear. Years where UF had the tougher schedule, years where UGA had the tougher schedule.

Me too.   More opportunities to whip up in the Cowbelles.

It obviously benefits our record to keep it at 8, but sure I'd rather see a 9th SEC game. Arkansas would make a fine addition to our schedule on a more regular basis.

They should make the SEC Championship one of the playoff games so our champ is an autonatic bid to the semi-final. That way we wont have to worry about strength of schedule hurting our chances. The Big-10 and Pac-whatever might complain, but our champ is always one of the best 4 teams in the country anyway.
