Do you really believe that either party when in office doesn't try a power grab?

Remember the Patriot Act....

Someone forgot to tell the current group of people and the current regime (especially the joke is on us appointments to the SCOTUS) that anything other than blind obedience was an option.

The patriot act had a limited scope and expiration date. And we at war with a not static group of idealist. The current crop expanded it and voided the experation date.

It's naive to pretend that once control is established the federals will give up that power.

What has Homeland Security done for you lately?

Precisely. It wasn't unlike the EU in some respects.  The North was called the Union for a reason.  They fought for a large fed,  the South believed the states were their own individual municipalities.   Losing the Civil War ended any shot at going  back to that.  We went from the United States are to the United States is.

If a party that ran on across the board scale backs ran and actually did it, it would force the other party to follow suit. If the Senate still represented the states that would check a bunch of the federals running wild.

You do realize that "Mr Smith Goes To Washington" is just a fictional movie, right?

Great movie thou. Notice how the senate was beholden to the state in that movie?
