I saw Emmert on TV this weekend and he made a great point:

'If players unionize, then they become employees of the university. If we are paying them to play football, why would we want them to distracted by studying?"

I've read differing opinions on this from tax experts. Not as clear cut as one might assume.

I'm sure it is questionable right now but I can only imagine the problems it's gonna create if they don't. Perks are taxable. Company truck is an example. Membership to the golf course is taxable. If yo business pays for it then to the gov it's salary. These kids get a lot more than tuition. From trainers to the training table. Housing would be a biggy.

A chance at a college degree is an afterthought to most these days. This isn't college football,or basketball,it's a training ground for professional sports. The day of innocence is long gone.Long live the dollar.

Screw em all.

Saw the ESPN poll this morning asking whether it was a good or bad idea... when I voted something like 70% of the country thought it was a bad idea to allow Northwestern to unionize.

It's also a private school that gets no assistance from their state, so I'm not sure how that affects the decision; and I would also think it'd be considerably more difficult for any state schools to succeed in doing it since ultimately they are governed by their states.

This. As cynical and bitter as it is, it's this.
