In a short-notice start, Mizzou junior righty John Miles (Columbia, Mo.) gutted through a career-long 7.1 innings, striking out five and walking just one in a 4-3 defeat at the hands of No. 14 Ole Miss on Friday night (March 21) at Swayze Field. Miles was called to start just 30 minutes before the game as junior righty Brett Graves (St. Charles, Mo.) was slated to start the game for the Tigers, but took an errant throw to the side of the head during Ole Miss' in-and-out warm-up and was scratched from the start. Miles gave up four runs and eight hits over the 7.1 innings, but three runs and three hits (two homers) came in the first inning as he shut down the Rebels through the rest of his start. Mizzou tallied a pair of runs in the top of the eighth inning, showing plenty of fight, but the comeback fell short.
