Lol @ Bomani Jones on the Pearl hire:

"Well...Auburn once tried to hire Bobby Petrino, so they just really don't care."
I understand the joke, but we didn't try to hire Petrino. He asked to interview and was denied.

Meh, back continuing to not care about basketball for a while.

The fair weather fans are already out, and this time I can't blame them.

Over. Although, with KT Harrell coming back we could contend for NIT next year.

Since when do UT fans, or any fans besides Bama, call us the Barn?

Everyone does.
I know a lot of Florida fans that do.

You're talking about the Tub days then, yea? That kinda makes the joke even more irrelevant... They gave him a 5 minute phone interview when we hired Gus.

Excuse me.  Upon further review, the Courier Journal exposed documentation of the private flight  Auburn's pres and AD flying in to Louisville and interviewing Bobby at his house there.

All that being said, its not relevant to this thread.  The joke was funny.  Moving on.

Regardless, I'm pumped.

When was the last time we were legitimately relevant in basketball?

1998  lost in the sweet 16  to the team that won it all (i think it was a last second shot that beat us)

I'm so pissed that this happened. Pearl is going to market the HELL out of Auburn's program and they will  take over the state. One of Grant's biggest shortcomings as a coach is his inability to market the program, and that battle just got a thousand times more difficult. Look at Pearl's energy and enthusiasm. He's going to be the 'it' coach.

The only thing I can hope for is that if Grant gets fired next year, maybe Auburn's progress will motivate Bill Battle to make a home run hire of his own and not 'settle' for another up-and-comer. I want a guy like Gregg Marshall, Ben Howland or the like. I want a proven winner...much like Pearl is.

I am really surprised Auburn made this happen. I think one year of true rebuilding, Year 2 they will probably be NIT and an NCAA bubble team. Year 3 I think they'll be solidly in the Dance.

We won it in 1998 and at no time played Auburn in the NCAA postseason.

This is the second time you've said this haha. You're confusing our last two appearances.

1999 - #1 seed. Lost  to Ohio St in a crazy game in the sweet 16.

2003 - #10 seed. Upset Jameer Nelson's St. Joe's team and Josh Howard's #2 seed Wake Forest before losing on a last second shot to Carmelo's eventual national champ Syracuse.
