Supposedly there's a hoard of Civil War era gold hidden somewhere on Keel mountain east of HSV.  Supposedly a group of Confederates bushwacked Union gold that was headed to HSV for some reason.
that explains why my grandfather's grandfather was a Union calvary guard along the train track from Huntsville to Bridgeport.

In central MS,  my wife's family's land supposedly has a stash buried from the turn of the 20th century.  Widow was moving to New Orleans after her husband died, and traded all her coin for paper so it would be easier to carry.  If I ever get down there during good weather I'm gonna do a little prospecting for it...
you got a metal detector?

Fischer F2.  Nothing high end for sure...

Gold is hard to find with a standard metal detector anyway, especially if it's buried deep.  Returns tend to mimic iron so if you're hunting gold, you end up digging a bunch of junk...

A California couple who found a stash of buried gold coins valued at $10 million may not be so lucky after all. The coins may have been stolen from the US Mint in 1900 and thus be the property of the government, according to a published report.

Some things are just too good to be true.

suddenly they're "stolen." Probably a government published report.

If you ever find anything like this, the best course of action is to keep yo damn mouth shut and sell it off piece by piece to a bunch of different dealers.  Even if you melt it down, still keep yo damn mouth shut..
