We always play better in October. I'm convinced we often try and do just enough to get in and then we decide to turn it on in the playoffs.

Freaking awesome.

It only buys out 1-2 years of his free agency, but the fact that we're locking his contract terms through his arbitration years is very smart. It means he can pitch like a true No. 1 a couple of years down the road and he's bound to the contract we're giving him now. We've seen how a player's performance can affect arbitration to a crippling degree (with Kimbrel).

We no longer have that risk with Julio. He is all ours until at least his age 29 season (2019), with an option for age 30 season (2020).

In the last two weeks, we have locked up two homegrown prospects through their prime years. That is AMAZING.
