Really? Homosexuality is about sex. A sexual preference. Not friendship. Not plutonic asexual behavior.

God, I hope your kid is gay.

May the bridges I burn light the way.

I'm not the one doing a press release about who I am :lanekiffin: ing. Seriously this has been a non issue to this point why announce it?

He was worried about there being a story/article about it behind his back, and it becoming a big deal, he actually says that in the video, that's why he chose to just do a press release now and stop all the whispers and talk. Now everyone knows and he can get back to playing football.

If I was in the spotlight I would rather tell people myself than some journalist start spewing who knows what.

Sam's decision to speak out now -- in interviews with ESPN and the New York Times -- comes after his experience two weeks ago at the Senior Bowl, where, he said, many already seemed aware of his sexual orientation.

"I didn't realize how many people actually knew, and I was afraid that someone would tell or leak something out about me," he said. "I want to own my truth. ... No one else should tell my story but me."

If they choose to be I just hope they don't do a press release to announce it. But since it will be a daughter I would prefer they not feel the need to announce who they are having sex with anyway.

The fact that dude is into penis is a non issue with me. Just like it was a non issue with his team, coach, friends, fans until he decided to share it with the world. That's the part I don't get. Why feel the need to announce it? If he is comfortable and secure with who he is why make a big deal out of it? It doesn't/shouldn't define him as a person. It has zero effect on his ability as a football player. It was a pretty open secret that no one was talking about. Rumors or speculation on it wouldn't effect his draft stock more that announcing it.

So why do it?

Good for him to be the one to come out on his own terms, rather than some hack journalist doing it to make a name for themselves.

And shame on the people condemning him for doing it. Maybe one day you'll meet someone from the LBGT community and realize that they are just as human as you or me.

Why do it? Because there are no openly gay players and (probably correctly assuming) you're a straight white male you really don't understand how important representation is.

Sam coming out to the media could help kids everywhere come out to their parents and feel good about who they are and not feel "Unnatural" or "perverted" or any other thing that homophobes tell them.

So if rumors and speculation might hurt his draft stock doing a press release making it public knowledge will not? In the story and when this was fi4st discussed non of his coaches or team mates cared. Rumors or speculation are short lived and quickly become non factors. Do you think Aaron Rodgers has been hurt in contract negotiations because he is rumored to be gay? Or any pro athletes for that matter. This isn't the 1960s anymore. Rumor isn't enough to get you blackballed anymore.

Does being gay make him a better or worse player?

Do you really believe that some radom college football player being gay will have any effect on a conversation between parents and their kids on being gay? Do you really think parents today don't know if their kids are gay? Again this isn't 1960. Those barriers were shattered decades ago.

To paraphrase the great Andrew Wilkow: If he's into putting his rod where some other guy defecates, so what? What's the news story here?
