Yes, Lou Holtz took us to the Outback Bowls in 2001 and 2002 (after the 2000 and 2001 seasons) where we beat Ohio State both times.  We didn't go to another Bowl again until Spurrier took over.

One year was a self imposed ban because of the Clemson brawl, right?

That was Holtz last game of his career.  We got out butts beat on the field twice that day.

'Twas the most embarrassing game as a Gamecock fan of my 30 year life. Exponentially more so than any game during the 1-21 years, or any other.

Correct, we finished 6-5.  As mentioned by others, that was an embarrassing moment in SC history as far as I'm concerned (for both Clemson and us).

You cannot truly appreciate the highs if you do not experience the lows.....it's a great time to be a Gamecock.

However bad things were in 1999 they weren't bad enough to make the fans give up, and that is a very, very nice thing. :)

I remember being at a UK @ USC football game in 1995(6) and UK's Moe Williams ran for 300 yards in a freaking monsoon!

By the end of the game our corner seats had turned into 50 yard liners.

Now we suck.

But what you're saying is there's hope....right?!?!
For the first time in a long time, there's hope. We have a good staff and great recruiting.  Still a few seasons away, I hope our fans are patient enough.

I remember Tee Martin went like 19 of 20 against your secondary once so that would have been 98 or 99.  So basically your secondary was easier to complete passes against than air.  It is pretty amazing job that Lou and HBC have done in just over a decade.

He completed his first 23 vs South Carolina in 98. Counting a completion from the previous game, he set the NCAA record for most consecutive completions.

Yep. I think it was the best year-over-year turnaround in NCAA history at the time.
From 0-11 to 9-3
it was 0-11 to 8-4...the next season was 9-3

My mistake- but the statement still stands about it having been the biggest year-over-year turnaround in NCAA history to that point.
