Distributors in SEC country can expect to pay a rate of $1.30 to carry the soon-to-be-launched SEC Network, according to several sources with knowledge of the rate card.

That fee, paid on a monthly per-subscriber basis, is what cable and satellite companies within the SEC’s 11-state footprint would pay to ESPN, the owner of the SEC Network. Outside of SEC territory, the channel’s license fee drops to 25 cents.

The Big Ten Network with Fox charges up to $1 in its 11-state footprint, and subscription fees inside and outside the footprint average 37 cents, according to researcher SNL Kagan. The SportsBusiness Journal said the SEC Network will also be more expensive than the Pac-12 channels.

Here's my dumb question for the day:

Do I need to do anything to get SEC Network?  Or is it just going to show up in August in my cable package?

I'm sure it'll depend on the provider.

I don't mind the $1.30....it'll probably be the best $1.30 I spend each month

I may have answered my own question.  After I posted, I googled "get SEC network" which led me to www.getsecnetwork.com.  Apparently, you have to petition your cable/ satellite provider to carry it.  Right now, my cable provider, Charter, has no plans to carry the SEC Network.

If they realize they'll lose a lot of business I'm sure they'll pick it up...probably just hasn't been a ton of people looking that far ahead and contacting them.

Edit- just checked to see if Directv would have it. They said no, and said Time Warner wouldn't either. I find it hard to believe practically no one will have it. They're probably just getting more people write in.

If Charter, Time Warner, DirecTV, and Dish aren't going to carry it then they are basically saying no one will carry it. I'm sure it just means that they haven't finalized negotiations. Bu now that I think about it I'm gonna write in just to be another name on the list for DirecTV. I want to make sure they know how many people look forward to having it.

Me too. I wouldn't worry too much, every provider in the South will have it by August when it launches; but I guess it wouldn't hurt to fill out that request to let them know it's in demand.
