start jan 31 2014. Working in the Gun Vault. This will be my first big company job inalmost 20 years. Kinda excited about it. It is a middle managment job which is nice after running things for so long it will be nice to not have everything on me. So I have a month and a half off now to piddle, something I am looking forward to.

I took off from june this year to November. I did an assesment of compliance and employee retention for a private security firm for a month. That ended with my final report last week. Before that I was a manager for a shooting range for 7 years. Before that I owned a fish store for a few years. Before that I was a district manger for a cell phone company. I have worked off and on since I was 16. I have taken the more enjoyable route the last 10 years but still being productive as I wanted to be.

I was the 4th person hired to work at the new Cabelas being built. I hope it works out the way its being presented. I have avoided big box deals for years but this one seems to be a cut above most I have been recruited to.

Cabela's is a solid company. They're still relatively small, even though their stores are huge, but they're starting to expand pretty rapidly.

The closest Cabelas to us will be Lexington Kentucky. I always assumed they were a regional mid west counterpart to Bass Pro shops but they are wanting to expand into the south east. Augusta is also getting a Gander Mountain in the next 2 years. Bass Pro has backed out of two different locations here. North Augusta is getting a Palmetto State Armory and a Sportsmans Warehouse. We are going from an under represented area to over represented if everyone actually builds here.

I have had 2 super shitty jobs. One I lasted 3 months the other 6 days. Its a job not a prison sentence and its easier to find a job when you already have one.

There is no Cabelas in Lexington...Louisville area has a new one.

There will be one opening in Greenville SC and Acworth Ga this year. The Augusta store will be a bit smaller "Outpost" type store. 90ish people 42,000 sqft deal. But thats cool. I am not a big box guy.

The italian stuff is pretty good. Fiocchi is a solid brand.

Congrats on the job!! Cabelas seems more upscale than basspro. Still, I like basspro and we just got a really cool one in little rock. Both companies are ardent supporters of 2nd amendment rights.

If any of y'all come to Arkansas check out Macks prairie wings (even though they sell anti-hunting brand Patagonia).
