The pic is a little whiny, but I mostly agree with the sentiment.  I would have given it to James Rodriguez too, but it's crazy ESPN.com has 4 stories on the SHOCK Messi won the golden ball.  He was fantastic until the semis.  In the last 2 games he was man-marked (often by multiple guys) and he still created some great opportunities.

Even the great ESPN crew in Brazil referenced how he didn't do much after the group stage.  (He was a huge part of the winning goals in the round of 16 and quarters.)

And to be fair, I don't remember 2006 but I doubt everyone was fine with Zidane winning, hah.
