Mexico has Jesus in goal? Why would the other teams even bother trying?

Excited about all the preview coverage ESPN has coming up.   They have a 30 for 30 doc on this USA team, and their hilarious podcast duo is doing quick video previews for some (if not all) the teams.   Those started with Team USA yesterday....

FWIW, this video isn't particularly funny but their weekly podcast (The Men in Blazers) really is a great listen for any soccer fan.

EDIT:  Their preview of England's squad is up now too...

I don't care if he is out of shape, he shows up when it matters for the U.S.

This would have been his last World Cup more than likely, tough to see our all-time leading scorer left off. Justified with his age and nagging injuries keeping him from performing in practice, but still...

Yes, it would definitely be his last WC. Even if he's out of shape, he can still contribute off the bench and make a difference. Much more than Brad Davis can do. All Davis can do is take free kicks.

I am shocked, but I don't think it will impact the results much at all.  He probably would have been on the bench, and it's not like he was a heart & soul leader in the locker room.  I still would have picked him though, and it is a bummer to see a US soccer legend end like that.

Please god let us get out of the group just so we don't have to hear the lazy stories of how different it would have been with Landon.

Im not surprised by the move leaving LD out.  He has been playing terrible and kind of brought it on him self when he took all the time off from soccer.

Not to mention I wish Bruce Arena had made a similar decision with some of the Old head leading up to the 2006 WC.

Claudio Reyna lost us the game vs Ghana and played a terrible tournament.

Whether it was the right call or not people will be second guessing the decision.  If we don't advance, in an already tough Group, many people will call for the coaches head.

I find it hard to believe there wasn't a slot for him.

The US looked good today in their last tune-up game before the world cup. Altidore finally broke out of his scoring slump with a tap in and then scored a great goal where he cut in on the defender after a through ball by Bradley. The past two games Fabian Johnson has shown that he can be a consistent threat pushing into the attack from right back.

Today's starting 11 and likely the one for our first game vs. Ghana:

               Howawrd
Johnson Cameron Besler Beasley
       Jones   Beckerman
  Dempsey  Bradley   Bedoya
             Altidore

Having Beckerman as a holding mid allows for Bradley and Jones to push up into the attack. Dempsey is also able to push up into the attack and can occasionally play as a withdrawn striker. When Dempsey steps, Jermaine Jones slides over and fills his spot defensively.

Reus is out for Germany and Cristiano Ronaldo is dealing with a thigh/knee injury. Both of these could really help the US advance out of the group stage.
