Is it worth it? If you win, are you guaranteed to get your money back?

Long story short, I loaned a very good friend $1400 dollars back in Jan. He has paid me back $190, but nothing since Feb. I'm in SC and he's in Texas, so can I even sue him here?

Yes I know to never loan anyone money ever again, so please no lectures. Just curious if anyone has ever had to deal with this.
Thanks

I say go on Judge Judy. Theyll cover air fare and cover the payout. But seriously I was in small claims court for $750 someone should have paid me for replacing their AC unit, but that was all in-state and a cut and dry case.

Thats why you never loan money to Liberals...you will never see it again...

Haha j/k.

My parents own an auto repair business here in town and have gone to small claims court several times.  No doubt will be a pain in the tail but hell its 1400 bucks. Id say go for it.

I'd say just let it go.  Write it off as a life lesson and don't ever loan money to friends, unless you can get by without ever seeing it again.  I've loaned money on several occasions to friends and relatives that are in a bind and told them to pay it back if they can, otherwise don't worry about it.  Some have paid it back, some not.

I would say lesson learned and forget it. He probably can't afford to pay you back and is too ashamed to tell you.

You said you loaned the $$$ to a "very good friend".

I'd say you need to decide just how good, and what that's worth to you.

(didn't mean for that to come off sounding like an ass or a lecture, just that it's your money and your friend. What's this lesson worth? Losing the $$$, or the friendship, or both?)

Good points all around. While my friend is not swimming in cash, he does have a steady but modest income. I'd be happy if he'd just pay me $50 a month, just to show that even though it won't be paid off soon, it means something to him.

I feel like he's using the friendship and the distance (he lives in Texas, we used to work together in Korea) to avoid paying. There is a part of me that wants to take him to court just to show him you can't do this to people

If you have $1400 to give away, he probably needed it more than you. Quit being greedy, 1%er.
