On paper, it looks like UGA would be the one to bet on........

so I'm betting on the Tide

can the Tide have the #1 defense after losing Lester at safety, Milliner at CB, Nico at LB, Jesse at DT, Square at DE, Dial at DT?

I think we have a chance to be a little better than last year actually with Pagan and Hubbard growing up a little bit, I think Fanning splits time with Dickson, and will be a monster

Lulz....UGA lost more than Bama. Everyone loses so much it's hard to tell.

So I'll go with SC just because of Clowney
“We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms -- to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way.”

I'm guessing that's some serious sarcasm regarding UGA..........

I'm going with UF, Bama, or Clowney

Georgia has a lot of untested talent. Like OP said UGA is could be a contender.  Not sure if Grantham returning will help or hurt. Time will tell. Bama will be good as well. Would expect USC and UF to have a decent D as well.

Actually we have 9 players coming back who started in certain games...

Anyways, Florida will probably have the best defense in the SEC.

You wonder how much UF will be affected by losing their DC. Most people think not much because Muschamp is seen as the defensive guy...... but if he was good enough to be picked up as a NFL DC, you have to wonder

I would say it'll be 1.Bama, 2.UF and 3.SC/LSU/UGA (in t. Bama loses a ton of players every year and theyve won 3 of the last 4 national titles with a top 5 defense so im confident they'll be fine. Now Florida, they'll porbably have some drop off, they lose 2 safeties, the two best Linebackers on the team, and 2 starting inside DLineman. But they have the best secondary in the SEC regardless of losing Elam and Evans because that's who Muschamp works with every day. But they have as much depth on defense as anyone in the country so Im not too worried.

UGA?  I don't think our D will be terrible and may even perform better against the run than last year, but even I'm not enough of a homer to predict that the D will be the best in the league after we stocked the NFL with rookie defensive talent.

we have no experience at LB and some youth in the DB. I'll hold judgment until practices/scrimmages
