Does anyone else here really have fun when it is time to buy a new car? I love going to the dealership and playing the price is right game and calling and pitting one dealer against another. Maybe I am in the minority but buying cars is a very fun process which I enjoy.

With that said does anyone have any good stories about there adventure buying a car???

Not a cool story but the last car I bought the salesman and I were just making bullshit small talk while my wife and I were signing all the papers. He actually looked at me with a straight face and said they don't make hardly any profit selling the cars. Needless to say that was one of the top 5 bertstares I've given in my entire life.

As long as the salemans sin't trying to run a con on me, I'm OK.  We had to get a minivan right at New years, and at one dealership, the guy would not give me a straight answer on anything--he would always say "Let me go check with my manager.  So one time, he went to ask his manager something, and when he got back, I was gone.

The car I bought a couple months ago was at a large volume dealership in Atlanta.  They priced the car at the kbb price and took only 300 off.  At the very beginning the salesman told me they dont come off more than 500.  They take the stance of competitive pricing.  Less time haggling equals more cars sold.  They had the liberty of taking the "if you dont buy it, some guy will 2 hours from now" approach due to demographics and location.  Even though they only took 300 off, I still got a hell of a deal

when i buy a truck i go to the local chevy dealership, the ford dealership and the dodge dealership. I tell them what I want and they get to fax me one bid. it changes but its never who i thought would be the low one. on my place i have two chevys two fords and two dodges so over the last 10 to 12 years it has averaged out.

I got the costco price which was 2k off of the sticker  automatically.  No cool stories   in and out.

I was in the car business for ten years.....and in all likelihood, he wasn't BSing you. Every so often, they'll hit a home run.....but the majority of new cars, there is VERY little profit involved. Most dealers' profits come from jacked up prices on used cars.

Yup one of my best friends dad was the Used Car manager for a huge Car dealership who sold almost everything but Fords. All there new dealerships put together in a month didn't match what a little buy here pay here trailor made in the same amount of time.
