About Carolina after the LSU loss:

Frank Martin does not like the South Carolina Gamecocks basketball team right now.

Martin, following the team's loss to a fellow resident of the SEC's lower half, the LSU Tigers, he said some pretty brutal things about his guys. These are the eight harshest quotes, as transcribed by The Charleston (S.C.) Post and Courier:

(On a list of former players Martin has coached, including Jacob Pullen, Rodney McGruder, Denis Clemente, Brent Wright, Sylbrin Robinson, Udonis Haslem, Steve Blake, Jose Baseu, Gimel Martinez, Allen Edwards, Steve Edwards and Doug Edwards) "If I had any of them on my team, then I'd have a guy I could trust on my team. So we'd be all right tomorrow."

7. "We lead the country in air-ball layups."

6. "If you've got no life for what you do, then you shouldn't do it. If you've got no passion for what you do, then you shouldn't do it. Right now, we're passionless and we're lifeless."

5. "If you take Bruce Ellington off our team, you'd probably have the 12 leading candidates for the starring roles in ... The Return of the Living Dead, the zombie movie."

4. "If I've lost them, then they better disappear, because it's going to be hard for them to be here next year if I've lost them 10 months into the job."

3. "I've been doing this for 28 years, nine of which as a junior varsity high school coach. That means I've dealt with 14-year-olds. I've never been more embarrassed to call myself a basketball coach than I am today."

2. "If this was the NBA, we'd fine them, we'd take their money, we'd release them and say, 'Good luck with ever finding another job.'"

1. "I have never been so embarrassed. I shouldn't coach basketball ever again if this is how my team plays."

I get what he's trying to do... but I think he should keep it to the locker room. That's just my personal take on the whole thing.... The Mizzou rivals site is arguing whether the above speech was warranted. Most think not.

Trust me the locker room has heard this more than once. This is the last resort. Frank wants some of these guys to either step up or get out. 90% of Carolina fans approve of this.

Once he gets some of his own recruits in there I think things will start to turn around a bit.  As a first year coach though rarely do things go right, I didn't watch the game so I won't judge him too harshly.

This is Frank Martin and it's how he approaches the game.  Everyone was warned he would ruffle feathers with his bold demeanor and matter-of-fact statements, both on the court and in the press.  I just hope the guy is tough enough to put up with the idiot media in this town.  It's gotta be the worst bunch of losers anywhere.  They all think they're Woodward and Bernstein.

Sounds like typical Frank. He had some crazy remarks and gestures on the court at KSU, but I dont recall him ever saying anything like this, maybe because the team he took over at KSU was a top 25 team.

He knows we're way behind in talent so he's actually been incredibly patient with these kids all year.  I think this was him realizing they're just taking advantage of his patience and he's not going to allow it anymore.   The Gators are still beating us 2+ weeks after the game.  There have been spurts of decent basketball but the effort has largely been non-existent since they got embarrassed.

If this continues and drives any of them to transfer then so be it.  They all seem like good kids, but there isn't a player on the squad who couldn't be replaced by a JUCO kid out there.  I'll wish them well and say adios.  

It's not like recruits out there don't know Frank Martin can be a hothead so I fail to see how this rant really hurts.   He's made it quite clear for years that he'll love you like a son if you give it your all.   Doesn't mean he won't yell, but there's only a real problem if you disrespect yourself and him by not giving it your all.

Exactly. To start the season we were actually competitive in our games, and beat this same LSU team on the road. After the Ark. game(and UF rape) we've completely quit. Sure he was harsh, but that's how he is. And apparently they quit before this rant...as is evident by the last few games. So either his rant helps or doesn't make a difference, but I don't see how it could make things much worse at this point. And any recruit should know what they're signing up for if they want to play here.

A lot of this is similar to how Spurrier is. We've quickly forgotten because Spurrier hasn't been frustrated as much lately, but he can be pretty harsh when he's fed up with his team's performance. Hopefully Martin can start seeing better results too.
