Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban has rehired former assistant Kevin Steele in an off-the-field role, according to a report by CoachingSearch.com.

Steele, who did not coach last season, was defensive coordinator for the Clemson Tigers under head coach Dabo Swinney fron 2009-2011. He served under Saban in the same role from 2007-08.
It is expected that Steele will serve in a player personnel capacity.

Steele, who played under Johnny Majors at the University of Tennessee, had stops as an assistant at places such as Nebraska, Florida State and Tennessee before being hired by Saban. After leaving Alabama he worked as a linebackers coach for the Carolina Panthers before being named head coach of the Baylor Bears. At Baylor, Steele compiled a dismal 9-36 record.

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz expressed his concerns along those lines to the Quad-City Times.
“My fear, in simplistic terms, would be that I would hate to see college football or college athletics become major league baseball, with all due respect to major league baseball,” Ferentz said. “The Yankees, they start in the inside lane every year. They’ve got the biggest payroll, and so they get to start on the inside lane.”
Ferentz didn’t name names, but college football has its own Yankees.
It’s Alabama.
