Considering it costs the country two pennies to make one I think it should defiantly be did away with. It's useless now anyways, every time I pay with something in cash (which is not very often at all) and I am getting two or three cents back I just walk away. The plan to round up cash purchases is fine with me. Every time I see someone pull out a wad of bills in front of me in the grocery store I moan. Chop the forty four million it costs us a year to make the damn useless coins and use the extra couple of cents on cash transaction for debt reduction.

agreed. Not to mention that the copper could be used for much better things.

Yes, eliminate the penny and switch from the dollar bill to a dollar coin. Both of those options would eliminate a lot of pointless spending.

I've got no problem eliminating pennies. Heck I've got so freaking many it's ridiculous.  It's very seldom I ever use the ones that I have so they just add up.  Every once in a while I'll cash them in but mostly they're just a pain.

While we're at it, let's go ahead and insert an EBT chip under everyone's skin... then we won't have to carry a wallet. Shafonda can just scan our arm and debit our bank accounts.

God forbid you don't have time to wait for someone to pay in cash. EBT chips are much faster.

Forward.

Please, It's the same thing when people pay with checks. It's pointless now when everything is electronic. Only thing cash is good for is vending machines and even those are starting to go electronic.

And even though your being a smart ass, My credit cards have wireless chips in them so all I have to do is wave my wallet over certain credit machines and I am done. Much more efficient then waiting for you to pay for that taco with quarters.

I would expect this sort of comment from a 25 year old. Yeah, it's more efficient... but where does it stop?

I'm cool with getting rid of the penny. But not cash like you imply. I'd much rather wait in line behind someone with a hand full of bills than behind someone paying with an EBT card.

if im on my way to the bank to deposit my check and im close to overdrawn (yes i live from paycheck to paycheck) then ill pay cash to avoid NSF charges from my bank. remove the penny im ok with that, but removing cash is absurd.

rolling your eyes at someone that pays cash for something makes you a pompous prick.

I say keep it.    If the Govt  is going to be inefficient  then they might as well be consistent across the board.
