I am a very new member to this site, and I joined this because of the uniqueness of both the site and the members. One of my favorite things is how I can have a serious discussion with a fan of a rival school while not going to blows. All in all, @Benny and all the rest of the staff and the members have helped make a forum that one could never replicate and I plan to be here for years to come.

Maybe I'm in the minority but the vast majority of "trolling" is just pretty damn funny and entertaining to read. In a day full of the monotony of a corporate/desk job - it is a welcome diversion to log on and not only catch up on recent sports & current events but also be entertained by some of the goofy and/or drunken rants or troll attempts. Honestly - in the 3.5 years I've been here (holy shit - has it been that long?!?) - I can think of only 2 or 3 incidents where I really felt like the poster truly went too far. I understand keeping the team specific forums free of negativity from other teams - but I hope we continue to be a little more lax in the other forums. After all - what would the site be without Razor's STFU threads?

Everyone's feedback is definitely appreciated. Without all of you guys, this site wouldn't be possible. Well, correction, it would, but it'd be like 10 of us and frankly, that'd be kind of awkward. I've been a little sparse around here lately due to a lot of real world commitments that honestly have been wearing on me, hence my sometimes short and terse demeanor. I have to admit when this idea was first brought up I was skeptical because of what I thought it would devolve into, but Benny opened up with some very strong and eloquent words that I support 100%. I think we've grown a lot over the last year and this year looks to be even bigger.
You can bet I'll be looking for trolling going on in the team threads, from here on out, there's no tolerance for it. If you want to start a trash talk thread, that's what that forum is for. I understand why some folks get upset about the politics and religion threads but here's my take on it: If you don't like them, don't respond in them. Most sports sites stay away from them for obvious reasons. We're all grown folk.... act like it. When those threads, or trash talk threads, devolve into name calling, that's when things have gone too far.
Again, thanks to all of you for making this site worth coming to each and every day.

Many times I see/feel people go to far on the political/religion threads. Sometimes I am just as guilty as others that are doing it.
I will not do that again.
I apologize if I have ever offended anyone.
Btw....I love the site and appreciate everyone that makes it happen.

I completely agree about the team forums. I'm not sure where to draw the line in the think tank or general forums though. What do you expect when you debate religion or politics? or get into a debate with a SC, UGA, and UF fan at the same time? Obviously it shouldn't be a free for all, but people shouldn't walk around with sand in their vajayjays either. The sandy vags got pretty bad at one point in the past and I think it actually took away from the site. There needs to be a happy medium, and I think for the most part we stay in that area. Obviously open discussions like this help with that.
“We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms -- to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way.”

I'll answer your question, Zartan. The only people who need concern themselves about bringing back banned members are myself, Benny, and the other Admins.
As for the general discussion going on, I want to thank everyone for taking time to give their input. It is much appreciated. The one thing I would like to add is to remind our members to please bring any issues or problems to our attention. We cannot be in every thread 24/7. If so see trouble brewing, please report it to us and we will take care of the matter. Dealing with trolling and pissing matches in this manner, instead of joining in with these things, will help lessen problems on the boards.

Firstly, I would like to say that this forum would be a whole lot more fun if dcbl wasn't such a douchebag to everyone else...
Having said that, and on a more serious note... the only problem I ever had with moderation on this site was with a guy who is no longer a moderator. I was edited, for profanity, I couldn't believe it at the time. I sent a PM to the mod that he had said the exact same thing in a different thread.
He edited his remark and never responded to me. I left for a little over a year... (PM thread was never deleted FWIW)
That guy (I ASSUME guy) is no longer a mod and no longer here. This happened before the loosening of the rules on dirty words...
I like to push the envelope. I like to be irrelevant. I like to have fun and I like to push buttons...
My opinion? If you allow yourself to get all worked up and bent out of shape over something that some anonymous stranger TYPES at you on an internet message board, you are doing it wrong...
Also, if you allow yourself to disregard things that are said by someone who disagrees with you to get you bent out of shape & decide to deride that person or ignore them, you will never learn anything or understand what your "opponents" are thinking. We should have a "bury your head in the sand" award...
I don't know about the rest of y'all, bu I come here for mental masterbation (for lack of a better term) or entertainment. I have plenty else enough going in my life to allow what someone says or thinks about me (especially a scum sucking Cocks or Gator fan) to change the dynamic of my day.
i mean, I have been so busy today, i have not even had time to beat my kids...
to me, it comes down to being a good community member. respect that you are participating in a FREE venue (or free to you) where you are able to vent about things that you care about. just remember, this whole thing is being done on somebody else's dime & respect that. And try to show respect for other folks (even people that are as obviously WRONG as Zartan always is...)
If everyone conducts him or her self in that manner - this will be a better community. Not that it ain't a pretty fantastic site as is...
Peace - OUT.

I'd say the site was heading into the shitter fast, until September 2011. Ever since then it's improved drastically. Almost miraculously.
In all seriousness, the site's great. I do have one legitimate concern about overreacting to trolling in team forums (not saying it's going to happen, but from the sound of it, all mods/staff in this thread are saying it will not be tolerated at all): Some of us almost exclusively navigate the forums using the Latest Topics sidebar. I know I rarely venture into the specific forums, I just want to read and contribute to active topics. The downside to this method of browsing is that the subforums are not listed in the sidebar, and when clicking a thread I have no clue what forum I am going into. Granted, I could easily scroll up to see, but the site automatically defaults the browser to the first unread post, which is below the breadcrumbs in the header, so unless someone consciously scrolls up to check which forum they are in, they might not realize they are in a team forum.
Because of this, I'd say to warn a poster first if they troll a team forum, then ban from thread. What could be an honest mistake could turn into harsh feelings if a mod acts too swiftly.
Just saying.
I've heard a lot of people say this (two in this thread so far) but @Benny has always read and responded to my PM's within minutes. But it's probably because I send him funny stuff when I get someone worked up. I don't think I've ever honestly addressed a real concern with him.
