The SEC wants to get no bigger than 16 but if you want to stop a B1G invasion into the south, the SEC should go to 18. To stop the B1G invasion, you need to get Virginia. The B1G likes AAU schools, UVa is one and VT is not. If the SEC get UVa and UNC then other than GT and Duke the B1G is limited.
In my opinion the SEC should invite UNC, UVa and Duke along with a 4th team. As far as VT football over UVa football, with SEC membership, Virginia will become much stronger than VT, just like what you see happening with Texas A&M over Texas. UVa could be lured away from the B1G if the SEC gets UNC. If you were not aware UVA-UNC football is the oldest rivalry in the south not Georgia-Auburn. Virginia would love to still be associated with the Heels. You get UNC if you take Duke.
The 4th school should be FSU. FSU does not add a new TV market to the SEC, but would add 5.5 million cable and satellite subscribers to the Big Ten Network. FSU would also give the B1G schools more exposure to Florida recruits. Florida recruiting is what should concern SEC schools. 9 out 14 SEC schools have at least 10 Florida kids on their roster. Ole Miss has 16. SEC recruiting is simple, get the best kids from your state and fill in the other spots with Florida recruits. Has Ha-ha Clinton-Dix and Amara Cooper helped Alabama? The SEC should protect Florida at all cost. If the B1G got FSU would the SEC still out recruit the B1G in Florida, yes, but the B1G would get more and SEC depth would be depleted some.
My new SEC
East-Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Duke, Virginia
South-Alabama, Auburn, FSU, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Kentucky
West-LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Missouri
Adding those 4, will pretty much stop all this expansion, maybe GT and BC join the B1G, so what.
At least it stop expansion until the Big XII GOR expires when Texas will be begging to join the SEC.
I like it other than Florida and FSU need to be in the same division. Its too much of a state rivalry (recruiting) for them not to play in the same division.
