He's been the DL coach as South Carolina for 7 years and 17 years there total.
I'm very impressed with this hire, and really surprised.

What do the Gamecocks think?

Before Clowney the general consensus seemed to be that our DLine was good but regularly underperformed.   I'm sure you'll hear a few freak out, but as long as we get a decent replacement I don't think it'll hurt us.   We have some of the top DL recruits in 2014 interested in us so that might be our biggest concern.   As long as Clowney praises the new guy I doubt this will be the reason we lose anyone though.

Clowney's probably his best coaching job just by the way he approached the superstar recruit.   From Day 1 he's been all over Clowney to make sure he doesn't get too full of himself.   It's kept him motivated to improve technique and his football IQ.

As long as the Gator players accept he's just trying to make them better when he tears into them, it will be a good hire.

Great hire for UF. I think he's been great for us. Has kept Clowney focused and improving. Plus he's taken 3 stars like Ingram and Norwood and made them excel in the system. Ends always seem to do well, but for whatever reason we've never had a dominant middle(actually its never been more than functional).

From what I hear he's somewhat of a drinker( or was at least) so the new coaches need to make sure he doesn't drunk text recruits(serious).

If this is true I have to say my respect for him has gone up a bit.   The only USC reporter I've seen mention this says that if it's true it didn't stop him from recruiting this weekend.   This is our big weekend and he's been at everything through this afternoon.

I like that too.
I hate when coaches try and bring other recruits with them.

I also like the hire because the guy isn't looking to move on.
We've had 8 OCs and DCs over the last three years.

Not a done deal yet.  Very possible, but I if SOS wants him to stay USC will make it happen. If so I think its a good steal for UF, but replaceable.

Seems like a pretty good coach and recruiter. If fan reaction is any indication, Muschamp just hit a home run.

I have yet to see a single reputable source confirm this. Not saying it isn't true, but I'd hold your horses 'til I see a direct quote from a university official/representative or even Lawing himself. It would suck to lose him, mostly cause it just doesn't make sense to take essentially the same position elsewhere. If he is indeed gone, it'll hurt more with our 2014 prospects than anything else of the sort. Spurrier can hire a competent replacement. His handling of Clowney was brilliant, but other than that, I'd say he's done a good job, not necessarily superb.

Our insiders are reporting it.
These ones in particular never "break" anything until they are sure.

"Spurrier once said Lawing is the best DL coach he has ever had."

Not that it means very much haha.
He only had a couple worth anything when he was at Florida, and I give Stoops more credit for that.

From what I have read recently, Young is strictly an interior d-line coach

LOL at the cockytalk message boards though.
They are almost as bad as some of ours. Almost.

EDIT: HAHAHAHAHA

So y'all are going to pay Lawing more than SC does and let him just be a DE coach.

I can't see Spurrier not countering - but hey, maybe he's just sick of Columbia, and wants a change of scenery.
