The fact that the total number doesnt exclude justified and police shootings makes it just another shock statement. By pointing out the combined number is around car deaths in the same time frame it exposes the fact the point of the statement is not to start a conversation about reducing deaths and to show how desentitied we are to death and to give a point of comparision to show a statisical relevence. If the posters agenda is to reduce deaths and not an ignorant attack on a constitutionally protected right I am showing a better place to start and reducing the shock value.

by the way if the ballistics report from Sandy Hook comes back as expected and confirms the intial reports that the AR never left the trunk and all shots fired were from 9mm hand guns will that change how you look at the presidents proposal?

Why not? Aren't people who shoot themselves the type we don't want getting ahold of guns? Don't many of these mass shootings happened with someone that is wanting to take a few people down with him?

Cause, if you're not...then what problem are you referring to? An overwhelming majority of gun violence is carried out by handguns, not those 'scary looking' assault weapons or high capacity clips.

The problem has never been guns, its the ease of access to guns. Hundreds of thousands of that number are from suicide, and those are the people you could save with better mental health screenings, not to mention the number of folks they took with them if they decided they wanted a body count to go with their own death

By that logic, persons who run a hose from the car exhast should be counted as "car accident" since they used a car to kill themselves. They would not have killed themselves if they didn't have a car.
