UNC has the potential to be a good football school with a move to the SEC East. Not quite to the level of A&M but better than Mizzou

UNC has the potential to suck hard.

I don't see UNC and Duke going different ways, they're probably a package.

Well @GatorUvrsty I appreciate the research and found it interesting, but I don't think any of that translates into great ratings for wake forest football games.
“We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms -- to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way.”

Brand power, love of hate them, their brand carries a lot of weight.

Athletic endowment, they have one of the largest in the country.

North Carolina, as mentioned numerous times previously, is a state the SEC isn't in.

March Madness Money, there's big money in college basketball believe it or not.  March Madness payout is the same if not more than bowl games because it depends on how far you go in the tourney.

Duke is not an SEC school....there is nothing appealing about them joining our conference.

I HATE UNC but would support them joining our league if either NC State or VaTech said no thanks.

They're like 35th in licensed revenue.  So much for a great "brand".  Lol

How exactly does one define a hippie, and how could anyone possibly do a study that determined a demographic like that?

I would argue there hasn't been a real hippie in this country for decades, and definitely not in the South. If you mean these little freaks who smoke out and are anti-establishment, those aren't hippies... those are just dropouts.

Well, I know they're not conservatives, so hippie, dropout, whatever you want to call them don't need be runnin' round in the SEC. :D

Yeah, that'd be pretty funny; but if you think about, I think they identify more with football than the typical basketball-first schools of Duke and UNC anyway.

The VT "brand", as it is, is based/built on football entirely. The UNC and Duke "brands" are basketball based. NCS doesn't really have a brand, as such; but they might be able to build one over time in a more football-driven conference... something I don't think they'll ever accomplish in basketball alongside 2 juggernauts like UNC and Duke in their same state.

NC State has won 2 NCAA titles in Bball.

This.

Which is exactly why we'll end up with NC State (and VaTech).

Which is nothing compared to the 9 that UNC and Duke have combined for; especially since NCS's last one was 30 years ago.

I never said they didn't have any success in any sport, I remember Jim Valvano; I'm just saying when you think North Carolina basketball, NCS comes in a distant 3rd behind the other 2.

Which is okay... that's an ACC tradition we'd just have to beat out of them over the first few years. ;)

I remember a certain school from TX you would have said the same thing about six months ago.

If NC State came to the SEC they would benefit big time like aTm has.

I DID say it about ATM six months ago, and they haven't even had a chance to benefit from being in the SEC yet... their primary benefit will be extended recruiting and perhaps even better in-state recruiting with Texas kids who'd prefer to play in the SEC.

But since they have yet to get their first class as a member of the SEC, they've yet to see much benefit... the players they had this year they brought with them from the Big 12.

Which brings up another point, in-state recruiting. ATM is in a far better location to benefit from being in the SEC than NCS ever will be; and that's primarily due to availability of top prospects.

To further prove the point, notice that the state Texas is #1 in the country this year with 291 DI prospects; NC has 74. Texas ranks #2, behind only Florida's 35, with the most prospects (32) in 24/7's final Class of 2013 Top 247 players. NC doesn't make the Top 10.

Just because of access to top talent, ATM would always stand to benefit more than NCS, at least in football. I can definitely see them benefitting, though, just like South Carolina has since they left the ACC. NCS could take over their state recruiting with the players that want to be in the SEC, too; there just aren't as many of them available in NC as there are in Texas.

But ATM is already competitive in the conference because of the talent level they brought with them... NCS would be a more long-term proposition, imo, again, kind of like South Carolina has been.

It took South Carolina 6 years to build up their program with enough talent and depth to compete regularly in the SEC, and that's with a NC coach.

Good points.

UNC and/or Duke are not coming to the SEC IMO.

aggy has always been able to recruit in texas. the problem has always been the administration and the coaches they chose. they fired RC Slocum for gods sake. he was like 120 and 50 and 80-20 or something in conference.

i think bobby would agree with me on that
