I would rather everything go back to where it was in 2010. The conferences dont make any sense anymore

Duke as a brand is extremely potent, even if their football program isn't.  I realize that obviously football is the cash cow but Duke has one of the largest athletic endowments in the country and would drastically improve the basketball side of the house as well as UNC.

I personally wanted UNC and Virginia as they bring the most to the table in terms of ALL sports (not just football), academics, and they give us two new footholds into two other Southern states.

Maybe I should have worded that better. By bring to the table, I meant have something to contribute.

Please, the only reason you want North Carolina is because they aren't Duke.

People keep forgetting that expansion doesn't have anything to do with quality of football programs; or basketball programs for that matter. It's about stretching your footprint into other TV markets and putting your conference on as many TV's as possible. Those teams' fans are going to watch the teams from their region and be fans regardless of whether or not they're any good.

That being the case, we'd love to add the states of Virginia and NC to our footprint; and the way to do that is get 1 of the Va. teams (VT or UVA) and any 1 of the 4 NC teams (UNC, NCS, Duke, or WF).

If we just happen to get a couple of programs that are good at football and/or basketball, good, that's a bonus; but it is secondary to what the conference is trying to accomplish. Total number of viewers is what drives the big TV contracts from ESPN, ABC, FOX, and CBS.

Well I guess when you put it that way we just need to wait for all the hippies in NC to decide to get running water and a television where you don't have to change the channel on the set and goes above 13.

Virginia has a huge funding problem.  Seems the school lost a bundle investing and now the athletic dept is keeping the university afloat.  no thank you.

Duke and North Carolina aren't too bad.  Duke basketball is great.  The football team is decent.  Baseball team is kinda bad though.  Although Duke brings a lot more to the table in terms of prestige and academics as well.

North Carolina is great overall in all sports and its academics are up there too.

All in all if we get them its great for the SEC.

:lanekiffin: this expansion. 12 was already pushing the limits.
If I wanted college sports to be like the pros, I would watch the pros.

At least this conference loyalty stuff will be over and done with.

Hippies? In NC? I think you mean hillbillies. If there are any hippies below the Mason-Dixon line, they're in hiding and only come out at night.

Better hope not; the other conferences' failure to understand the importance of that solidarity is partly responsible for our dominance.

I've read another half dozen quotes from blue chippers this year about their insistance on playing in the SEC. They were considering several different programs, as long as they were competing in the SEC.

Of course, most SEC fans will still have a greater affinity for the original members; but I sure enjoyed watching ATM stick it to Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl... loved it.
