What can I tell you, smokey? Maybe it's a Northern/Southern thing. Maybe I'm naive. The thought or necessity of having guns to protect me from the government has never entered my mind

And I hope it never does man. I honest to God hope it never gets to the point it goes past what if.

Amen.  These days, if it were to happen, it would be misery like we've never seen before.  We would look fondly on 1860-1865 for how civilized it was.  The days resolving an internal conflict with uniformed armies lining up and slugging it out are essentially over.  Everywhere it's happened in the last 50 or so years, it's been an ugly, nasty, brutish guerrilla war.  I mean, there's a reason you can speculate on the price of machetes in Africa based on how civil wars are going.

Take Iraq.  The number of insurgents topped out at around 100k right after we disbanded the Iraqi Army and was typically around 40-50k during the mid to later stages of the war.  We had 175k troops in country, Iraq had around 800,000 personell, and the Kurds supplied 400,000, and we still had a hell of a time securing a country the size of TX.

Now imagine you've got 10X that much land area to secure and oh BTW there's a high probability state and local police won't help you and the branch of your Army that constitutes 75% of their combat power (the National Guard) may not show up when called because they don't like the idea of shooting their friends and neighbors.  How ugly do you think that would be?

I'd like people to be able to defend themselves against home invasion. I think it's good for store employees who work alone for long periods of time, particularly at night, to have some defense against armed robbery.

Don't really care for a bunch of John Q Publics walking the streets packing heat and waiting for stuff to pop off. You may save my life one day, but you might end it, too

so its not logic its just your opinion...which is what most people who want the USA to be a gun free zone think...

Example number 755,956 why these people can't be trusted.  These are the disgusting gutter dwellers that we in the civil rights community are fighting against.

Here’s the problem: The CSGV has done some selective editing in its video. In its version of the ad, Barrow displays a pistol and says:

“Long before I was born, my grandfather used this little Smith & Wesson here….”

It cuts the Augusta congressman off there. How did Barrow finish the sentence in the original, and what did the CSGV choose to omit? This:

”…to help stop a lynching.”

Around here, those five additional words make a big difference.

Replacing inefficient processes with better ones should be the aim of government

Really?
The goal of government should be to define simple and basic laws while also providing basic defense.
Any process is made efficient by individuals and smaller groups that are directly affected by those processes.

Not to mention the Feds themselves.  I have "acquaintances" that work for federal law enforcement agencies.  Listening to their comments, I am willing to suspect that a goodly number of them will not enforce what they believe to be unconstitutional actions by elected officials, where this debate is concerned.

They question raised is this: how involved in open rebellion against such a power grab would they be?  Hard to tell, depends on the officer in question.

The main issue with Obama et al is that those who have large numbers of privately held weapons are also those who neither like nor trust liberal actions or liberal ideas.  By disarming this liberty-minded group of people, it becomes easier to control them.  The offer of the public treasury has not seemed to work in bringing to heel this recalcitrant rabble of self-reliant individuals, so on to Plan B and take away their ability to resist.

Times have changed, Neo. The government has tanks and stealth bombers and missiles. Even a grade-A nutball like you isn't dumb enough to take on the government. They'd bury what's left of you in a pizza box. So given that you have zero chance of resisting the government in armed conflict, the only real reason you 'need' guns is to maintain your laughable GI Joe fantasies

i think our military has proven to be vulnerable to guerrilla warfare. if the citizens of this country needed to defend themselves from our military it would be the exact type of warfare they have proven to be vulnerable to. if i find myself in need of using a firearm to defend myself from anything, id like to have something effective at it, not something that would put me at a possible disadvantage. however, i think guns are being used as a scapegoat and are not the problem we face at all. i dont blame forks for obesity, i dont blame cars for drunk drivers and i dont blame guns for murderous malcontents. what we should be discussing is mental health and the complete lack of treatment for people facing mental health issues.

Wow. A chart that says there are more gun incidents where the population is higher.

Hard hitting journalism right there
