To finish his degree.

Cam Newton has returned to Auburn University - not as a football player, but as a student.

Newton has returned to his alma mater to finish his degree. Newton left the university early - after the 2010 season to enter the NFL draft.

Newton was drafted in the first round to be QB for the Carolina Panthers.

Auburn's new head coach Gus Malzahn broke the news this morning in a tweet.

Kirk Sampson with the Auburn athletic department says Newton is pursuing a degree in sociology but was unsure how close he was to finishing that degree.

Sampson added that Newton is not doing any interviews right now - he's just focusing on being a student.

Lots of people taking pictures on campus. I guess that comes with the territory.

But Cam was a one and done guy who only cared about himself and would NEVER set foot on Auburn's campus again after getting drafted!!!1111

LOL
I kept failing a math test at the University of Alabama because every time I added 5+3 I got 8 and they kept insisting that the right answer was 14.

He's actually already been to Auburn a whole bunch of times since going to the NFL. Here are some examples:

Just a word of caution folks, but this is the Auburn forum.  Keep any trash talk out of here (not that there's been anything too significant so far).

Cool, this one time he stopped by an elementary school after he was drafted.
I asked for you to let us know when he donates his time and money to Auburn.
None of those links relate in any way whatsoever.

Actually all three of those links discuss Cam donating his time to Auburn. Don't believe me?

Cam Newton's return to Auburn to visit friends and coaches has indeed been a hot topic, but perhaps no single stop produced the excitement like a visit to Wright's Mill Road Elementary School on Friday when the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback visited the kids he helped mentor in 2010.

Auburn did Friday night in Atlanta when Cam Newton addressed the team.

Newton, who is playing in the NFL these days, talked to the Tigers before Saturday's 6 p.m. game against Clemson in the Georgia Dome.

He wasn't here to visit Tim Horton. Coach Horton tweeted that it was an honor to meet Cam Newton today. Cam is here to hang out and spend tie with Gus and the coaches and players.

I can only surmise that you didn't read any of those links, that you don't actually know how to read, or that you're in denial. Since you're posting on a message board I have to assume that you can read and since you mentioned the middle school visit I have to assume that you read at least one of the links. That leaves one option...

I assume he promised his parents he would get his degree.   Regardless of what he does after the NFL, I don't think a sociology degree is going to be a prereq.

Yeah, it's not like he needs it. I would guess it's probably more for all the kids he visits at schools than his parents; how can he tell them to pursue education and get a college degree unless he has one himself? Of course it could also be for some positive PR. Either way it's a smart move.

My fault. Didn't see this was posted in the Auburn forum.

He is just making a pick up.

He chose the life-time payment plan over the single, lump sum option.

Does that hail mary to Darvin Adams at half time still hurt?
