I'm going to say something astonishing here; the Republican Party's race problem is only going to be solved by eliminating the stigma from those who see racism in the party.  The GOP can bend over backwards catering to certain racial demographics, but it will only be seen as disingenuine or "trying too hard".  People are actually going to have to research the principals that the party stands on if they want to get over their racial concerns.  I can gurantee you that Colin Powell isn't the only person America who believes the Republican Party is being racist by accusing Obama of being lazy; that isn't a problem, it's THE problem.

Are Republicans racist? Of course not. If you are a racist though, which party are you more likely to belong to? The GOP panders to these people a lot IMO.


I think many of the party's race and gender issues are self inflicted. There simply are too many old white men running the party. Let's face it, if you are in politics and you are a person of color, or female to a lesser extent, you are probably not a Republican. Republicans should be killing with Hispanics, as many of them are devout Catholics, but they have so many issues about immigration that Hispanics won't touch them. Hispanics are the new Irish. A once hated minority that had a President in the White House 80 years after their biggest influx and are now considered a key part of the American melting pot. Family values and small government don't know any color or gender barriers, but this "let's take our country back" stuff tells women and minorities that you're wishing for a time when they had less power and presence in American life.

Just my .02 cents though. I'm happy to let the party go the way of the Whigs.
