Good points, but I would miss seeing him in the SEC next year.
Many of these good players get lost to us once they hit the pros.

He is a great player so yes I agree. I love watching him play when he isn't playing Vanderbilt.

And the CFL is another viable option? There are better players in American CFB than the CFL. The NF: uses it as a minor league system when I don't think they should. It's merely my opinion, I am not stating it as fact.

Uh, yeah. If he didn't want to go to college and instead just get paid to play football, he has that option. Where the hell do you get this idea that he's entitled to make millions of dollars? Oh, poor Jadeveon, he has to wait until he's 21 to enter the NFL draft! The injustice!

I'd love to hear any rational reason you have as to why the NFL shouldn't "use [college] as a minor league system." Both the NFL and college football make a tremendous amount of money, so it's obviously a system that works very well, for football AND the players.

How is it "not fair?" There's nothing that says any of these guys HAVE to go to college.

Football playersOriginal Image: http://www.sectalk.com/board/public/imported_images/images.intellitxt.com/icon1.png who have been out of high school for at least three years are eligible for the NFL draft. The rules do not state that a player must attend college

There's nothing different about that than many other jobs that won't hire anybody straight out of high school without any relevant work experience. Some jobs require at least 3 years of corporate work experience or something similar before they'll hire someone without a relevant education. So if a guy wants to skip college, he's free to do it.

I don't understand the "it's not fair" BS. Nobody tells them they have to go to college, but they can't be drafted until they've been out of high school for 3 years. Which essentially means you can't play in the NFL until you're 21.

Semantics. You and I both know they really don't have a choice. In the real world, you prove your worth some how, some way, the "3 year experience" requirement flies the Original Image: http://www.sectalk.c.../lanekiffin.gif out the window. I know that personally. It exists in football because both the NCAA and NFL benefits from the farm that is college football, and then you get into should football players be paid or not issue, which I don't want to get into.

Still, in reality he can't just sit out and get to where he in many ways deserves to go because of a technicality. Instead he has to go and risk what happened to Marcus Lattimore happening to him, for basically free. That's why in these special situations, it's unfair to force 3 years.

It benefits the player as much as it does the league. If he goes pro out of high school he gets signed for peanuts, and if he gets hurt in camp then they can cut him and he'll never play football again.

Injuries can happen at anytime. It's an irrational talking point to suggest that the current system isn't fair because he might get injured.

didn't say out of HS. My original post says I'm completely against that and the reasons why. That's unfair to everybody, because every HS player is a project. I'm even cool with 2 years, full support of it. That 3rd year though, is just taking advantage. Most players you may not even know about until they've been in a system for 3 years or even more. But like I said, for guys like Lee and Clowney, you know all you need to know. They're not going to get any better in college than what they'll get in a NFL facility, and they're locks for the first round, and they've proven for 2 years that they can dominate at this level.

Lol.... "taking advantage." Right. Because coaching those guys, housing them, feeding them and teaching them to develop their game is "taking advantage" of them. You sound ridiculous. They could easily get hurt in their first or second year as well. There's no logic to your argumen.t

No logic if you're blind. If you can't see the difference between a guy getting hurt in his first or 2nd year while still proving himself or making a name for himself, and a guy that every "expert" guarantees will be a top 10 pick because of the work they've already done on the field for 1-2 years...being forced to play collegiate football again because of a technicality....well doesn't really surprise me.

Please explain the logic to me in "the NFL is taking advantage of players by not letting them enter the draft at 20 instead of 21." Because that's what you just said. As I've already noted, it's not a college rule, it's an NFL rule, so when you say "it's taking advantage of them," you can only be referencing the NFL since it's their rule. So please, enlighten me as to how the NFL is taking advantage of Jadeveon Clowney by letting him declare for the draft 3 years out of high school as opposed to 2.

It's an enormously stupid comment on your part, because if it were true that Clowney is such a lock, then the NFL is only putting itself at a disadvantage by having a rule in place where he can't be drafted yet. So yes, you lack logic.

there was nothing spectacular about his hit. Everyone is raving about it, but he wasn't touched. That hit was the result of nothing more than the DC calling a slant at the perfect time. He was in full sprint untouched when he crushed that RB. Average speed and strength would produce the exact same result. If anyone here outside of @Hoganknows and @Zartaint was the DE on that play, you'd be a superstar today.
When it's 3rd and 10, we shuffle out our secret weapon... he's the only person we ever want calling the next play... some call him the twelfth man.... we call him the whiskey drinker...

Well if you've ever followed the rule and the challenging of the rule in the judicial system, you'd know that rule is in place as much for the collegiate game as it is for the NFL with NCAA's full support.

In this case, the NFL actually doesn't benefit, but the rule is in place for the NFLs part for further evaluation as much as anything, and for the college game...to improve the sport/product as a whole.

This. He hits so hard that I'm quite concerned he may accidentally decapitate someone at the collegiate level.
