As "uninteresting" as the games may have looked last week, they sure did a lot to get your humble prognosticator back on track! Good 'ole dcbl checks into week 5 with a 26-23-2 record, just BARELY enough to be on the money winning side...
Games in God's Conference:
South Carolina -7.5
Texas AM -13
National Games of Interest:
Georgia Tech -7
Oklahoma State -20.5
So many people are saying that the SC vs UCF game is "dangerous" and a "trap game" for the Gamecocks. They are wrong. Steve Spurrier has been talking about just 2 things this week, the 2010 Liberty Bowl and this year's game between the Knights and the Nittany Lions. Guess what - the Gamecocks are way better than Penn State and the 2010 Georgia Bulldogs. This MAY BE my favorite game this week.
Next up is easily the game of the week; in the conference and nationally. The truth is that it would not be a surprise no matter which team wins. But the Dawgs are at home and have faced stiffer competition, which gives them the edge to cover that 3 point spread.
A lot has been said about the fallacious 3 point line that we saw early in the week for aTm vs Arky. I am pretty sure that line was not available for actual wagers anywhere at any time. Most gambling sites still have this game listed as OFF. The 13 points is the most credible line I can find anywhere & I sure did not want to leave this game out. Aggies cover no matter who the Hogs trot out behind center on Saturday.
So maybe the Rebels are not that big of a surprise after last year, but I still think that their win over Texas will resonate for the program for a log time to come. UNLESS they allow somebody to hand them their heads. And Bama is just the team to do just that. But they won't. Not against this Mississippi squad. Bama wins, but Rebels keep it interesting for the full 4 quarters.
Kentucky really is woeful. And Florida has a very good football team. In fact, they are probably better with the less talented Murphy at quarterback. This game will never be in doubt, Gators cover 14.5 running away.
The Volunteers enter this week looking for an identity. They need a big win just to prove to themselves that they are a team with a bright future. S Alabama comes into town at just the right time as the Vols do what they need to do to rebuild some confidence.
I predicted at the beginning of the season that we would see the "same old Vandy" this year. After the Ole Miss game, I thought I had been mistaken. At the moment, it's looking like I was right. 'Dores win, but take the Blazers and all those points.
I still don't get why Mizzou put all their cupcakes at the begining of the schedule this year. They'll probably be looking for a break towards the end of October... Tigers make their last tune up game before conference play look easy.
Speaking of looking easy, GA Tech has been on fire so far this year, and the VA Tech Hokies needed THREE OVERTIMES to put down lowly Marshall. Yellow Jackets do their part to create a bunch of hype heading into the Miami game.
I know, I know. Everyone thinks that Notre Dame sucks. Well, they don't suck, they just aren't as good as the top teams in the SEC. And neither is Oklahoma. Not this year. Look for the Irish to win straight up, but take the gift 3 points.
Everyone is talking about how awesome Oregon is, but I think that Stanford may be the best team in the PAC 12. Look for the Cardinal to bury Mike Leach's squad.
Speaking of getting buried, the 'Ears may well be the worst team in any BCS conference. Seriously, I would LOVE to see them play Duke... Oklahoma State extends West VA's misery this Saturday.

I was actually 3 - 8 - 1
The aTm game, I just really made up the line, but still very impressed with Arky
Ole miss - they palyed a tougher game and a closer game than the final score shows, but Bama really also looked invincible the way they actually pulled a shut out.
Field goals matter, they matter against the line AND in perception. Freeze did the right thing insofar as trying to win, but he hurt the Rebs in national perception (for AP & Coaches polls)
He DID NOT hurt himself with recruits I don't think. He can sell that he plays to win, and kids will buy that.
Carolina? Are they just not that good, or is UCF a damn good team? I am going with the Knights being for real, or at least "real" as a mid major power. Plus, losing the QB helps me give the 'Cocks a pass on this one. BUT, the Tarheel beatdown reflects poorly on SC and GT also. I STILL want ECU in the SEC, there academics will keep them out, but I like the Purple Pirates.
Who is more miserable? UT or Vandy? I still don't know, but the 'Dores covered... I will NEVER be impressed with a win over UAB. I live in Bham and I just have to laugh when I see the Blazer billboard that reads, "Whe we win, Birmingham wins!" Bullshit. The Blazers can eat a dick.

I don't gamble real money and if I did, I WOULD NOT pick EVERY SEC game, especially ATS (against the spread)
29 - 31 - 3 on the year
