i just got u-verse about a month ago. my in-laws first got it and i really liked it....my parents followed and they really like it.
compared to metrocast, we were paying roughly $115 per month for internet and cable with minimal channel packages.
the introductory 12 month rate for uverse for their "elite internet package" (the one that supports online gaming, so its plenty fast), and a step up from their standard internet package and the U200 tv package with a HD receiver, is together about $85 per month, so we are saving considerably and getting more and better channels vs metrocast....but once that 12 month period is over, it goes up to $118 or something monthly.
overall, we are saving about 400 bucks over a year period and once that year is over, we will pay a little more than what we were with metrocast, but we get more channels and i like the service much better. you get a bunch of dvr stuff enough to hold a bunch of hd movies, kid shows, my shows, and my wifes shows.
while a great deal initially, you will have to wrangle with them a bit. first piece of advice is to go to att.com and get everything bundled...thats how we got our savings. second thing that helps is to register for installation online. there is an installation fee of $100 and some other fee for $50 that get waived when you register online.
now, the not so good part.....even with my online setup, when you get your first bill, you are gonna be pissed....its way too high for what you are expecting.....i was expecting one of $85 or $90, but it ended up being for $140. i was pissed and read up online about problems that other people were having, and i worked myself up into a frenzy that i was about to get screwed. i called customer service expecting to get the run-around, but i explained the situation, and it was quickly resolved. i got a $50 credit to my account and it seems to have been corrected. i have only gotten my first bill, but they do tell you up-front, that your first bill will usually be more than future bills and they way they do it, you pay for services before you receive them....like your first bill will be for services for the following month plus what your prorated amount for the current month.
all in all, i love the service and benefits of uverse, but they need to get their shit together regarding their promo-codes.....i shouldnt have to call to get those applied especially when i registered electronically.....outside of that, i think its awesome. its gonna save me a good deal of money. hope this helps.
